Game Management

Slator Ranch has operated a trophy whitetail deer management program under the supervision of wildlife biologists since 1984. We harvest spike and cull bucks leaving the better young and middle aged bucks to reach 5-1/2 and 6-1/2 years old. In addition, doe harvest has been used for herd reduction to balance whitetail deer numbers to our native habitat.

Our whitetail deer are not pen-raised. The ranch is high fenced on three sides with natural rivers and creeks present. The results of this ongoing 32 year program is that Slator Ranch consistently produces eligible 125 to 165 gross Boone and Crockett trophy whitetail bucks from our native Llano County deer herd. The best 2015 whitetail trophy buck scored 167 gross Boone and Crockett.

Hunting Amenities

Our hunters typically hunt from a blind or tree stand with feeders, and rattling is encouraged! Feeders and corn are provided by Slator Ranch for the whitetail buck, doe, turkey, and hog package hunts below. Camping with power for RVs and a walk-in cooler for game storage are available at the check-in station 7 miles west of Llano. Several motels are less than ten minutes away in the town of Llano.
